TYPES OF DEPRESSION
Several types of depression exist, each with its unique features:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Characterized by a severe and persistent low mood, profound sadness, or a sense of despair.
- Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia): A chronic form of depression with less severe symptoms that last for at least two years.
- Bipolar Disorder: Involves episodes of depression alternating with episodes of mania or hypomania.
- Postpartum Depression: Occurs after childbirth and can affect both mothers and fathers.
- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Depression that occurs at certain times of the year, usually in the winter when there is less natural sunlight.
- Psychotic Depression: Severe depression accompanied by some form of psychosis, such as delusions or hallucinations.
