How to Avoid Digital Distractions While Studying

In a world filled with technology, is there really a way to curb digital distractions? With our help, there definitely is. Below is a list of our top tips and tricks on how to avoid digital distractions while studying.

Find out What Distracts you

No need to cut out all electronic gadgets while studying. When you know what distracts you, it could help narrow down which devices to avoid when you hit your books.

Resource or Distraction?

There are many apps and media that can help you while studying. But is it helping or disrupting you? Sift through them all and set aside all digital devices and media that aren’t helping you.

Out of Sight, out of Mind

Find a study space away from things that can cause distraction like your phone or TV. You could study in a different room or soak in the sun by studying outside.

Get Your Papers in Order

Stop yourself from opening another tab by printing out your notes and resources. Reading from paper is also a better way to remember information than reading from a screen.

Set Goals With a Study Schedule

Afraid of getting side-tracked by your electronics? Set goals with a study schedule. This will give you the motivation you need to reach your study goals in a set amount of time.

Make Time for Your Favorite Show

So season four of your favorite show just premiered. Playing it as background noise will distract you from your studies. Set time aside to watch your favorite series on weekends or at night.

Do not Disturb

Most smartphones have the Do Not Disturb mode. This is a great way to avoid getting calls and notifications. You can even set it up for a set amount of time to avoid getting disturbed.

Stay off Social Platforms While Studying

Unless you’re using it as a hotspot, turn off your internet or switch off your phone. This way you won’t be able to check your feeds or start chatting to your friends.

Turn off the Notifications

When you are subscribed to sites or apps, chances are they send you regular notifications. Turn off all notifications from these sites without unsubscribing or removing apps.

Take a Break Away From Your Devices

If you have some free time, take a break away from digital devices. Take a walk outside or do some chores. This could help you break the habit of running to your electronics when you have some down time.

Give Yourself Some Time to go Online

You don’t need to cut out all technology. Focus on your studies first. Once you’re done, reward yourself by browsing the web or catching up on social media.
