CHARACTERISTICS/FEATURES OF ORAL NARRATIVES.
- Oral narratives have Moral values.
- Chants, sayings and songs.
- Oral narratives have Simple plot and a major topic of discussion e.g. theft, injustice or immorality.
- A narrative is an account around a character i.e. people or animals e.g. in a story about the hare who refused to dig a well, we have animal characters.
- Oral narratives normally have a conflict.
- Oral narratives have repetition and personification.
- Oral narratives have Sequence i.e. they start with stating a tale and it can’t end until the crisis is resolved.
- Oral narratives have Opening and closing formula e.g. once upon a time and that is the end of my story respectively.
- Oral narratives have Gestures during performance/presentation.
